National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025
The National Photographic Portrait Prize supports and celebrates photographic portraiture in Australia. Each year the prize attracts thousands of entrants from emerging and established artistic talent across the country. Featuring famous faces and everyday Australians, the prize celebrates the vitality and diversity of photographic portraiture in Australia.
Be among the first to experience the exhibition at our official opening, with special guest Rebecca Blake, Assistant Curator at the National Portrait Gallery.
Based in Kamberri/Canberra, Rebecca is a curator and writer who will speak about the exhibition and the stories behind the portraits. She’ll also be available throughout the evening to chat with guests and answer questions about the works, artists and the process behind bringing the exhibition together.
In 2025, finalists were selected by the panel of judges – writer and broadcaster Benjamin Law, Senior Curator at the National Portrait Gallery Serena Bentley, and Leigh Robb, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
Following its exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, the National Photographic Portrait Prize 2025 opens at Horsham Regional Art Gallery on Friday 16, October. This exhibition is supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program, an Australian Government program aiming to improve access to the national collections for all Australians.

Join us for the opening of this new exhibition at Horsham Regional Art Gallery.
The difference between here and there presents new work by local artist, Paul Blackman. Inspired by the forms of rural industry across the Wimmera and Mallee, Blackman uses virtual reality to construct expansive digital environments that are later transformed into photographic works. The exhibition invites audiences to consider the relationship between virtual and physical space, and how perception, memory and imagination shape our experience of the world.
