Patricia Choueiri: looking back

A Horsham Regional Art Gallery Community Gallery exhibition

Looking back is a retrospective exhibition of oil and acrylic paintings by Beulah-based artist Patricia Choueiri. Inspired by a broad range of European artists including Ruebens, Caravaggio and Kandinsky, Patricia has explored a range of subjects in her paintings including mourning, the vivacity of life, and our unique Australian experience.

Patricia’s approach is to commence painting and allow the subject matter to reveal itself in the composition. ‘Mainly, I just let the mind go free. After finishing a work, faces and other discernible objects will often come to the fore’. Patricia explains.

With experience throughout her career teaching various modes of painting, Patricia is an advocate for the practice of letting go of control and letting the thoughts and feelings emerge on the canvas. ‘It clears out the brain, and the process is very enjoyable’. She explains.

This exhibition is an opportunity for the artist and the community to look back on older works as Patricia explores a new type of practice, working in oils and bringing in more geometric elements, on a smaller scale and on paper.

Horsham Regional Art Gallery’s Community Gallery was established in 2016 and aims to support emerging artists in the Wimmera.
