Gary Vaughan: WIMMERA -My Story

WIMMERA – My Story is watercolourist Gary Vaughan’s largest solo exhibition to date, and a personal series of paintings and assemblages anchored to the Wimmera, memory and human connection to land.

Warracknabeal, Lah and other townships feature across multiple paintings as well as our iconic mountain ranges. This exhibition is Vaughan’s homage to the sublime in nature, as well as an idyllic, almost nostalgic capturing of life on the land.

Statement from the artist:

In my art, I dive deep into the timeless beauty of the Wimmera landscape, where I’ve been a farmer for many years. This place isn’t just where I work – its part of a culture that stretches back through the centuries. I’m fascinated by how people and nature shape each other. My paintings tell stories that go way back, mixing history with the present. Each brushstroke is like a thread in a fabric that’s both personal and universal.
