Expansive ground: Sidney Nolan in the Wimmera
Opened by special guest speaker Dr Paula Dredge, from the Grimwade Centre for Cultural Materials Conservation, at the University of Melbourne.
Join us to celebrate the return of a selection of paintings and drawings by the iconic Australian painter Sidney Nolan. Created between 1942- 43 at the beginning of his career as a painter, they reveal the profound effect that living in the Wimmera had on his artistic experimentation with material, style and subjects.
Dr Paula Dredge who has spent ten years studying Nolan’s practice and material use says, ‘Nolan is a puzzle, the more you know about Nolan the more questions you have’.
Presented by Horsham Regional Art Gallery, with support from Principal Loan Partner, the National Gallery of Australia, and Heide Museum of Modern Art. The National Gallery’s Regional Initiatives Program is generously supported by Major Partner AWM Electrical and Data Suppliers.
