RM Showcase 2024

Since 2004, the annual RM Showcase has been held in honour of Richard Morris who was tragically taken from us.  This year marks the 20th anniversary.  It is a variety concert featuring the amazing talent from across the region.  The Richard Morris and Alex Rathgeber scholarships will be awarded and presented to the successful applicants.

Richard was passionate about the performing arts and allowing people to grow and shine on stage.  Alex was the beneficiary of this encouragement, and now as a professional performer, he is committed to giving back to the Wimmera where it all started.

This is an event the whole family can enjoy at very reasonable price.  Do yourself a favour – grab a ticket and enjoy the abundance of talent on offer in the Wimmera.  You will not be disappointed!!!

The Roy Orbison Story

Mark Shelley is simply brilliant in his characterisation of Roy Orbison. He not only has the vocal range and tone to honour his songs, he also has the sensitivity & artistic ability to ‘be’ Roy.

You will find yourself believing you are in his presence, transported back in time, reliving the emotion of each of his songs and the stories of his life.

Without doubt, this is the definitive portrayal of Roy Orbison – the man, his music and his life.

Only the Lonely…….Running Scared…….Sweet Dream Baby…….Candy Man…….
Blue Bayou…….In Dreams…….Anything You Want…….Crying…….
Workin’ for the Man…….Penny Arcade…….Pretty Woman…….and many more…….

The ‘Big O’ stood head-and-shoulders above the rest, his vocals were peerless, his range extraordinary.  His songs unique, impassioned and personal. Orbison, the man, was enigmatic, driven, shy, funny and quietly charismatic.

From his initial success in the 1960s to the resurgence of his career in the 80s, Roy Orbison’s voice remained remarkable, communicating an emotional intensity not experienced in popular music before or since.  His songs conveyed vulnerability, love, loss and fun. His performance was unique, simple and powerful.

Orbison’s life was littered with personal tragedy and career highs and lows.  His wonderful resurgence in popularity in the late 80s through his legendary ‘Black & White Night’ Concert, his solo album ‘Mystery Girl’, and the formation of the Supergroup ‘The Traveling Wilburys’ was a fitting final chapter for such a creative genius.

Schubert’s Trout Quintet – Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Pianist and composer Stefan Cassomenos will present a short pre-concert talk commencing at 7pm, 30mins prior to the start of the performance. This talk is included in the price of admission, and – aside from purchasing a ticket – no registration is necessary.

Experience the beauty and majesty of Schubert’s epic Trout Quintet with world-class pianist Stefan Cassomenos and the core members of the MCO. Written during a summer in the Austrian countryside, the sunny and care-free buoyancy is heard throughout the work, with the centrepiece being the sublime theme and variations based on one of Schubert’s most popular songs that gave this Quintet its nickname. This is a virtuosic tour de force for all instrumentalists, one of those pieces that sweeps players and audiences away.

Music is a true inspirer, for audiences, players, and for the composers themselves. We celebrate that inspiration in a very exciting way by presenting the world premiere performances of Stefan’s reflection on the Trout Quintet. This is a rare opportunity to delve inside the world of the composer as a performer and the inspiration behind their work.

The first movement of Hummel’s fiery First Piano Quintet opens the concert, itself the inspiration for Schubert’s Quintet with this unusual combination of violin, viola, cello, double bass and piano. A student of Mozart and much loved by Beethoven, Hummel was one of the most dazzling pianists of his time. It is this energy that dances off the page, leading one to well understand how it inspired Schubert to write The Trout.

Featuring Stefan Cassomenos + Sophie Rowell + Emma Sullivan + Merrewyn Bramble + Blair Harris, members of the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

Presented by Horsham Town Hall and the MCO

This project is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria
