Speakers

Gemma Jones, Craft Victoria

Gemma Jones is the Public Programs Manager for Craft Victoria, as well as being an artist and maker in her own right with a love of pop and folk art. She has a strong background in writing and editing, community engagement and alternative arts practices. She founded the community craft group Kaotic Kraft Kuties, edited over ten titles for Outre Gallery Press and wrote about art & craft for The Vine for many years. At Craft Victoria she has managed the annual Craft Cubed Festival – Australia’s biggest celebration of the handmade, delivered programs to support craft practitioners to market, as well as championing ideas and writing within the craft community.

Anthea Abell, Full Tilt Nanna

Full Tilt Nanna is owned and operated by Anthea Abell – a Melbourne-based mumma to one and an absolute crochet tragic. Anthea taught herself to crochet in 2012, starting with the humble but beautiful granny square, and made square, after square, after square until she was quite literally hooked!

After having a baby, Anthea started making toys because she wanted to know EXACTLY what her daughter was playing with; that it was ethically sound, machine-washable, safe and FUN. Over time, the Full Tilt Nanna range has evolved to include toys, accessories and keepsakes. Anthea continues to strive for thoughtful and practical design that includes: colour, texture, sensory and imaginative stimulation and a little bit of cheek and quirk!

Anthea uses high quality, eco-friendly yarns (cotton, bamboo and upcycled denim) that can be thrown in the washing machine because let’s face it, the toys are going to wind up strewn on the floor and in the kids’ mouths.

The line of baby accessories holds the same principles as the toys and only quality, super soft, machine washable yarns are used: they feel divine against precious new skin and hold their shape after each wear. They will stand the test of time and become treasured hand-me-downs for years to come.
